A smile makeover is not a single procedure. It is a plan that brings together the treatments your smile needs, such as whitening, bonding, porcelain veneers, ceramic crowns or dental implants, and puts them in the order that gives the best and longest-lasting result. For some patients that is two treatments; for others it is a staged plan over several months.
What makes it a makeover is the design: Dr. Fady Salha, DMD looks at the proportions of your face, your lip line and the character of your natural teeth, and plans the finished smile as a whole before any individual tooth is treated.
Treatments a smile makeover can include
- Professional teeth whitening: often the first step, so any porcelain is matched to your brightest natural shade.
- Composite bonding and contouring: a conservative way to repair chips, close small gaps and refine uneven edges.
- Porcelain veneers: to change the shape, color and apparent alignment of the front teeth.
- Ceramic crowns and bridges: to rebuild teeth that are heavily worn, broken or heavily filled.
- Dental implants: to replace missing teeth, placed and restored by Dr. Salha in our own office.
- Gum care: healthy gums are the foundation, so any gum inflammation is treated before cosmetic work begins.
How a smile makeover is planned
Consultation. An unhurried conversation about what you want to change, a thorough exam, and the photographs and records needed to plan precisely.
Design and preview. You review the proposed shape, shade and proportions of the finished smile before treatment begins, and refine them with Dr. Salha until the plan feels right.
A written, staged plan. You leave with the treatments in order, a timeline and an itemized estimate, so you can decide with clarity rather than pressure. Treatment can be phased to suit your schedule and budget.
Treatment and review. Each stage is completed and checked before the next begins, and the finished smile is reviewed at a follow-up visit.
Benefits and limitations
Planning everything together avoids a patchwork result, where a new crown no longer matches after whitening or a veneer is placed before a gum problem is treated. The trade-off is time: a complete makeover usually takes several visits, and treatments such as implants need months of healing. Porcelain and implants are durable but not indestructible, and like any restoration they need daily care and regular checkups to last.
Am I a candidate?
A makeover suits adults who want to change several things about their smile at once: color, shape, worn or missing teeth. If there is decay or gum disease, that comes first. The consultation is where you find out which combination fits your goals, and which treatments you do not need.
Why patients choose Dr. Salha for their smile makeover
A makeover depends on judgment as much as technique. Dr. Salha earned his DMD at Boston University, has cared for New Yorkers for more than three decades, and serves as a clinical instructor at the NYU College of Dentistry. Because he places and restores dental implants himself, a makeover that includes missing teeth stays with one doctor and one team from the first visit to the last. You can see a real smile makeover case in our smile gallery, shared with the patient’s written consent.
Smile makeover FAQs
How long does a smile makeover take?
It depends on the treatments involved. Whitening or bonding may be completed in a single appointment, veneer and crown work usually spans two to three visits over a few weeks, and plans that include implants take longer because of healing. You receive a clear timeline at your consultation.
Can a smile makeover be done in stages?
Yes. Many patients phase treatment over time. The plan is designed so that each stage fits the finished result.
How much does a smile makeover cost?
It depends entirely on which treatments your plan includes, so you receive a written, itemized estimate before treatment begins. We accept debit and credit cards as well as CareCredit financing, and we check your dental insurance for any restorative parts of the plan it may cover.
