Stained Teeth? Veneers Can Transform Your Smile.

Stained or discolored teeth can cause many people to feel self-conscious when smiling or talking, which can feel terrible. You don’t want your most joyous moments to be marred by feeling embarrassed by the color of your teeth. No! You want to throw your head back and laugh and not give a thought to how your smile looks.

Did you know that taking certain medications can discolor your teeth? That’s what happened to the patient in these photos, whose case we are highlighting in this blog. She took antibiotics as a child, and her teeth were permanently discolored. Veneers were a perfect solution for her, and they can be for you too!

Common Causes of Stained or Discolored Teeth

Some are blessed with very white teeth, but even these people will see yellowing or staining over time. There are so many reasons that teeth become stained or discolored.

Food and drink: Drinks like coffee, tea, soft drinks, red and white wine, and fruit juices can stain your teeth. Foods such as beets, soy sauce, tomato sauce, berries, and even apples and potatoes can cause tooth discoloration. Love Indian food? If your dish contains turmeric or saffron, it could be staining your teeth.

Tobacco use: Smoking is terrible for your overall health, and it’s bad for your teeth too. Both chewing tobacco and cigarettes can stain teeth.

Medications: As mentioned before, many medications, especially certain antibiotics such as Tetracycline, can stain your teeth. Even something as common as Benadryl has been known to stain teeth if taken over a long period of time.

Genetics: This one is just unfair! Some people just have naturally brighter or thicker enamel than others.

Trauma to the tooth: If there is physical trauma to a tooth, it can become discolored/stained over time due to nerve damage.

Aging: Another unfair one! But it’s true. As we age, the outer layer of enamel on the teeth wears away.

Poor dental hygiene: Finally, something that is under our control! If you don’t brush and floss regularly, plaque and stains will develop. Make sure you are mindful of your oral health by brushing and flossing twice daily and getting your teeth cleaned every six months at Parsons Smile Center, and you will reap the rewards of a brighter smile.

Veneers for Stained Teeth

So, once you have stained teeth, you must live with them, right? Wrong! Fortunately, there are many different options ranging from at-home whitening to dental implants and veneers NYC.

Our patient wanted white teeth and a “Hollywood” smile. We were happy to deliver.

Using a combination of veneers, also called laminates, and dental implants, Dr. Salha was able to give the patient a smile worthy of any big screen or magazine cover.

What are Veneers?

Veneers are custom-made, very thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. They can match the existing color of your teeth, whiten your natural teeth, or completely change the color of your teeth according to what the patient wants. Some patients choose to match their existing tooth color, while others prefer a ‘Hollywood’ smile. We have a range of colors for patients to choose from with our advice. In fact, we have a lab tech who can assist in selecting the color, shape, and size of your veneers.

Veneers are undetectable and correct cosmetic imperfections such as:

  • Stained, dark, and discolored teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Uneven, misaligned, or irregularly shaped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Bite problems
  • Veneers also lengthen teeth that are shorter than average

Along with other benefits, such as being easy to care for and whitening your teeth, veneers are great because they give your teeth a more uniform appearance. If we had just whitened the patient’s teeth, she wouldn’t have achieved the current perfection of her ‘Hollywood’ smile that we could achieve with laminates/veneers.
